Quiet beginning

Our New Year was very quiet and laid back.

I wanted the color theme to be in whites and the focus on just relaxing and enjoy our friends.

White flowers in the winter, right after the holiday of green and red, was a bit of a challenge. The selection isn't all the glorious.

The men did all the cooking for the evening. We were treated to some yummy appetizers ~ I was too busy talking and forgot to take pictures.

My husband made a beef tenderloin with shrimp and scallop skewers on the side. We also had garlic mashed and green beans with fresh basil and lemon zest. Kevin is a great cook. If only he had more time to share those skills.

Why is it that everything takes so amazing when you don't have to do the cooking?

Life is back to normal in our home. Well, at least our normal :)

Hope your New Year is off to a great start!

I'm finishing up my goals for 2011 and will share those later.

Sounds like such a nice way to ring in the new year. Lucky you to have a good cook for a husband! We didn't really do New Year's this year...fell asleep before the ball dropped. A couple of duds this year! Next New Year's will be different! Looking forward to your list.

Oh how I wish I was able to transition so quickly! I must be the only one that still has CHRISTMAS all over my house including a decorated tree! It is top priority tomorrow, we'll see!

Mmmm, I love that you chose a white theme New Year's. You are one lucky woman to have a husband who cooks...what is that like? ;) Your dinner sounded delicious!

Happy New Year and cheers to a fabulous 2011!

(LOVED your white stockings also. Oh how I wish I could sew. They turned out beautiful!)

Hi Jo,

Glad that the New Year got up to a great start. The white flowers and candles look lovely.
Even better too, when the Men cook.
I am lucky to have a husband that enjoys cooking too.

Happy week

Can Kevin come teach Dan how to cook? What a treat! I agree, everything tastes better when you didn't cook it yourself! Your table looks just beautiful.

Happy New Year!

I hope you enjoyed yourself and are having a blessed 2011! I know what you mean about food tasting better when you don't have to cook it, although at my house, it also tastes better when I don't have to clean up! As always, I enjoy your blog! xoxo

Happy New Year, Jo!
I've been down with
the flu and have spent
yesterday and today
catching up when I can.
Your festive meal even
sounds appealing to me
now, so that is a good
sign! I hope that 2011
will be a wonderful one
for you and your family.
Happy Friday!

Oh my goodness! My mouth is watering. This soup looks so yummy and it has all of my favorite things in it. I am definitely going to try it this week, because we too, here in Snowy Michigan, have that fresh blanket of snow that calls for some warm soup.
Have a great weekend,
Joyce

Weren't those dog houses insane?!! I'm glad to see you got a big kick out of them as much as I did.

Jo, you always have the best recipes posted on your blog. I'm drooling over this one. I was just about to run to the market so I'm happy I decided to stop by your blog before I left the house. After reading this post I'm preparing a lunch date with this fabulous soup.

We had a quiet beginning too...and I didn't have to cook either! Legare and friends did everything and I barely held my eyes open until midnight. I said, "Happy New Year and Good Night!"
