Life in Progress

When my son was in first grade I quickly realized that May was going to be the busiest month of the year ~ December didn't have a fighting chance even with all the holiday hoopla and prep. Well, once again May hasn't let me down. I feel like my body and mind are being stretched as thin as possible and going  in all directions.

The weather here in Eastern Connecticut has been ... challenging. Yea, we'll go with that since it's a little nicer than what I'd really like to say. Soon I'll have to move into my own personal ark if this nonsense keeps up. Yes, it has rained that much AGAIN this year. I wish I were kidding but sadly I'm not. However, a sweet friend reminded me, when I had to take the morning off to pump water out of my basement, that I have a home to return to at the end of the day. Thank you for keeping my whining in perspective. With that said, I really have nothing to complain about!

The ground is SO wet that my poor plants have been living in a continuous spa treatment which is causing them to soak themselves into an unhealthy state. The weather is turning warmer this week {accompanied by showers} so I rescued them and began the laborious project of planting. Why does this step always take ten times longer than I anticipate?!

The window boxes are completed ~ one check off my list!

A little refresher after working hard in the yard and basement. My favorite ~ lemon and lime.

I have been waiting {not so patiently} for these to arrive. They are the reason I have not shared my kitchen remodel. It's a little naked without the back splash. Long ago I saved a picture of this tile in my inspiration binder. I was knew EXACTLY what I wanted when it came time to choose the tile for our kitchen. Done! Or not so fast ~ I didn't have a name or style and no tile place around here ~ from Greenwich to Providence ~ recognized the image in my picture. I knew I would have great regrets if I settled for something else knowing what I was looking for was out there ... somewhere.  After many hours of research on the web I finally found what I was looking for. They are all handmade which means extra turn around time. When they arrived one of the three boxes was damaged so I've had to unwrap each individually wrapped tile to make sure they aren't broken or chipped.

I'm hosting a garden party in a few weeks to celebrate a very dear friend. Keeping my fingers crossed in hopes that our wetlands will dry up and my yard will have a chance to bloom.

The other morning I had to laugh at myself as I was spreading mulch at 5 am before getting ready to head off to my classroom. Why ? Because it was the only window of time with no rain in the forecast!

I'm ready for summer break!

The weather has been strange here in Chicago, too. When it's sunny, it's cold out and when it's warm, it rains. I still haven't gotten my flowers in.

I'm glad you finally got your tiles. And that you were able to find them online. I am a big online shopper, you don't miss a thing!

Good luck with your plants and lets hope for normal weather!

XO,
Janie

Hang in there, summer's coming! Last Monday, it poured rain and was really cold here; today it was 93, which makes me a little concerned about July and August!

Jo, I could have written so much of this post myself! My hair is still wet from the downpour that ended Matthew's baseball game. I am pining for summer weather. There is something wrong with having to wear fleece the last week of May! Hoping the weather cooperates for your party. An indoor garden party will be just as lovely. :) And as for the schedule, I'm with you there too. Just taking the next two weeks one day at a time....

I LOVE your tile for the back splash and am so grateful that you did the legwork for me, so that now I'll very easily be able to add the name and vendor into my home file for the next kitchen. You are too sweet. :)

We really need to catch up soon. I'm not sure exactly when or how that will happen, but I'm going to try to get a call off to you this week. Missing our chats & am so sorry to hear about the flooding.

Take care,
K.

Thank you for the words of encouragement about my garden. I was going to go out and work on it today, but it rained and then started to hail with ugly black clouds and thunder and lightening. Not a good time to be playing with the rototiller. I'm still going to try it though.
It might be wet and rainy, but just think, it gives you a chance to wear those fabulous wellies, they're fabulous.

Love your boots! I have a thing for rainboots. We don't get much rain so I've never needed any but just bought my first pair b/c I love them so much. They sit by my door and I've yet to put them on. lol You sure have a lot of energy if you're up working in your yard before headed to the classroom! Tomorrow is the last day of school for us. We're all ready for summer break.
Have a great day!

The weather has been strange...rainy, cooler then today we are at 90degrees and my poor son had an all day fieldtrip outside {poor little guy} came home not use to the heat. However, rainboots always make me smile :)

Jo I adore it when you walk us through your day! Your attitude and tone....priceless and so real. You have such a humble way of making us feel normal in our own daily struggles. You just seem to get through them with a little more spunk and spirit than I do....AND you always look so darn cute whether your pumping out the basement or playing tennis!
Love this post & you too!

Not a fan of the rain either, but am so thankful for a roof over my head too in light of the recent storms.

Those tiles are just GORGEOUS! I cannot wait to see the reveal!

My parents are in Nova Scotia and it has rained non-stop there since they returned home a month ago. Miserable. I hope you get some sunshine soon! I LOVE your rainboots! They are beyond fabulous.

I totally agree about May being so busy! YIKES. I hope everything comes together just as you plan for your party! How fun.

Yeah, the endless rain this spring has been quite the downer. Add the tornadic weather and it's even worse. We're finally getting a break and the sun is making it's way to these parts, with LOTS of heat. I'll take it after all of the sogginess. Hopefully the rain will leave your neck of the woods soon, in plenty of time for summer vacation!

I hear ya on May. It's never ending... and it bleeds into June around here too. I have no idea where my spring went.

I love, love, love those tiles!! I can't wait to see the finished product!!!

I hope it stops raining for you soon!!

I hear you girl!
We've had the same
weather pattern.
But I was struck by
your friend's comment
that "at least you
have a house to come
home to." So true. My
neighbor is in SD at
the moment helping her
parents pack up before
the levees are opened
and their house floods.
Yikes! Love your cute
pink boots!!
