Still in the season

December 2012 010

This has been a busy and emotional holiday season. After what happened in Newtown CT my heart has had a hard time with cheer and celebration. I've also been missing my sweet boy Nicholas. He spent Christmas down south with Morgan and her family. They had a great time, and her family was so sweet to him {thank you!} but it just isn't the same without him.

Christmas Eve dawned with a last minute rush first thing in the morning. By mid afternoon life had settled down and I was looking forward to our evening candlelight service at church.

For as long as I can remember, my family has held the tradition of seafood on Christmas Eve. This year I took the easy road and prepared a seafood stew. Not only was it simple to prep and prepare, it was delicious! We will be revisiting this recipe again for sure! I'll share the recipe.PicMonkey Collage

As we were about to walk out the door I realized that I had just shared at dinner that I've been slacking on photos and would like to get a shot or two of us before we left for church.

Christmas Eve service was beautiful! It was just what my soul needed to put the perspective back in place. Our pastor touched upon the families that are hurting as they deal with their losses as well as reminding us of the true reason and celebration of the season.

After we returned home, with a quiet and calm heart, I put the finishing details on our Christmas so that we could relax and enjoy a slow paced Christmas morning.

'Twas the night before Christmas ...

not a creature was stirring in our house

because they were sick on the couch!

The stockings were newly made {this very afternoon} with Tessa in mind

and hung, just in time, by the chimney with care {whew!}in hopes
that the NyQuil would soon kick in with the desired relief!

Our Christmas Eve plans went down the road less traveled this year. My husband informed me this morning that he wasn't feeling all that well. I loaded him up with over the counter, under the counter and anything in between medications that we had on hand.

He did a stellar job of holding his own for as long as he could before he waved the white flag. Poor guy knew how much I wanted to attend Christmas Eve service {such a beautiful welcome to Christmas}. A quick glance in his direction before dinner told me that we would be spending a quiet evening at home.

I'm all about the gift of giving unless it's germs!

So, Merry Christmas Eve to all, and to all a restful nights sleep! :)

Christmas Eve

Merry, Merry!

It's been a quiet day of ~
wrapping gifts
hearing from old friends
prepping for Christmas dinner
and
Christmas Carols
This evening we will enjoy our Christmas Eve dinner.
We traditionally have various fish and shellfish dishes.
As the suspense builds, we open one special gift.
This is always followed with donning new Christmas pajamas.
As I slow down and reflect on my year past,
I am overwhelmed with my surmounting blessings. I've so enjoyed meeting you and getting to know you even better over the past year. Your kind words and thoughtful messages truly make my day. It's such a joy to peek in on you and your families as well. Thank you for giving me the greatest gift of all; friendship!
I'm wishing all of you a restful and relaxing eve of Christmas!
