Road Trip and Treasure Hunt

Bright {well, the sun wasn't shinning just yet} and early Sunday morning my friend Jane and I hit the road in search of fabulous treasures.

With travel mugs of coffee and homemade blueberry banana muffins in hand, we headed in the direction of New Milford, CT.

The ride was quite beautiful. The scenery was lush and green from all our rain. Not a moment of silence was heard the entire trip. I've always enjoyed the relaxed conversation of friends.

If you can image it; they had it! There were rows and rows and rows to meander through. I had my eye on this large frame as I'd like a mirror at the end of our hallway upstairs.



How sweet is this child's dress form? I have no idea what I was going to do with it or even why I needed it but it was going home with me! Small problem ... it was already sold. Seriously, I felt like a deject child. No worries, I quickly rebounded.



Poor guy was exhausted from all the fun ;)
See the cute table and chair{ there are 3 more chairs in the set}? My friend picked that up for her side porch.



They even had plants, fresh veggies and beautiful flowers CHEAP! If only we weren't finished planting for the season. I couldn't believe all the incredible deals {and junk} to be found.



This is my bag of goodies. My husband makes fun of my cart on wheels but it sure beats carrying everything. My take home treasures included a couple silver trays, a silver bowl, fresh from the garden veggies and beautiful flowers. I'll show you my silver pieces at work later this week.

I will be returning! Care to join me?

Our adventure continued on to higher end antique shops in Woodbury. We poked around in many sweet shops, had an amazing lunch, did a little more shopping (the theme of the day) and then headed home.
It was an incredible day.

Today is my last full day of school ... bittersweet emotions. I will officially be on summer vacation tomorrow at 1:07 ~ not that I'm counting ;)

Have you ever attended Elephant's Trunk in New Milford?

Is it worth the drive?

Are the "treasures" really as great as I've heard and read about?

Any thoughts or helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking about a road trip this weekend.

Spring Break ...

Has sadly come to an end.

It was a great week off {with the exception of the computer issues we've had} and I could really use just one more week; please?

It's amazing how much you can accomplish when you don't have to the leave the house from 8~5 each day. I must admit I also enjoyed lounging in my pj's and enjoying an extra cup of coffee each morning.

We were lucky enough to have sunshine and warm temperatures. There were even a few days in the high 70's ~ yeah!

How many more days until summer vacation?

I think I may need to start a count down calendar ~ something like a Christmas advent calendar with the chocolates in each window : )

We celebrated spring with our first visit of the season to Eliza B . There were so many wonderful choice that it was really hard to pick just a couple.

I added to my pink collection and also added a few "fun" items as well ~ can't wait to wear them.

However, that day must be postponed. It is 50 today with heavy showers in the forecast. Oh yes, reality has returned with the reminder that we live in the northeast and it's just not ready to commit to 70 degrees just yet.

Score!

Guess what I got ...
First I must explain that this never and I mean never happens to me. I'm always the one that just misses a great deal or hears about it the next day from a friend and it's too late! For that reason alone, I was jumping for joy ~ I was finally at the right place at the right time!
While running a few errands, I decided to pop into Talbots. I needed {wanted} something springy to wear while I pretend it's spring here in the still chilly northeast. While meandering around the store, I noticed they had items in the back of the store that resembled homeware (not sure that's a word) goods next to the shorts, and summer shirts ~ not the normal selection one would find at Talbots. The lovely Talbots lady explained that they were display items that may or may not have been used in the store and were selling them to make room ~ at ridiculous prices I might add!



What's a girl to do when faced with such an unexpected surprise? Load the back of your SUV and quickly drive home to admire your stolen {I mean sale} items!

My herb garden will look lovely dressed in black this year ~ just what I was looking at last week at the garden shop ~ three staggered sizes with cute finial tops.

I've always wanted a pair of "old" suitcases but could never purchase them from an antique shop due to my mold allergy.

The picture is hard to see and I don't care for the blond wood frame so I'll have to add a few personal touches before it makes its grand debut in our home.

My real thrill of a deal are the three self standing lattice panels ~ I'll share what I'm doing with them in just a few days.

Even Bozley admired my fabulous deals.

All these goodies for a mere $50.oo!

As if actually finding this amazing deal wasn't enough ~ I was able to use my Talbots card and get double points ~ that makes this a double score!

I was so excited about my goodies I completely forgot to look for clothing ~ guess I'll just have to go back : )

Going into town!

I'm sure I've already shared (whined, complained) that we live in a small town with other small towns surrounding us. It wasn't my choice to move here, the Navy decided for us!

I grew up in a large city in Michigan and enjoyed having everything at my finger tips ~ great shopping, wonderful food stores, fabulous restaurants, cultural events, theater, and so on ... you get the picture, it had a heart beat.

My husband gets this odd twisted look on his face each time I tell him "I'm going into town, do you need anything?" He often replies by saying .... "OK Laura, this is not Little House On the Prairie."

Oh, I beg to differ!

On Thursday I hitched up the wagon and drove to town ~ a REAL town. This town (aka city) has everything I miss and it only takes me 45 minutes to get there. So yes, darling husband, I do think we live on the prairie if it takes me 45 minutes to get to civilization!

I hit my favorite food stores (they call it food shopping, not grocery shopping around here) and bought all my favorite items.

I love Trader Joe's! They have so many wonderful products, they are so friendly and best of all ... they are cheap!

My second favorite it Whole Foods ... great produce, fresh meats and seafood, huge cheese selections, fresh baked breads and pastries, love their organic selection, not to mention their bulk rices, pastas, dried fruits and nuts. I always treat myself to one of their amazing bouquet of flowers.

It's just a shame that they won't let me move in!

I also found time to hit JCrew, Pottery Barn, REI, and a few other shops on my "to do list." I even knocked off a few Christmas gifts!

It was a very productive trip!
