I've been thinking of purchasing a yogurt maker. I eat plain or vanilla yogurt daily.
Some days I mix granola into it, fresh fruit, dried fruit, or just eat it on it's own. When I add up what I've spent on this daily consumption, I wonder if it wouldn't be more cost effective to make my own.
With that said, I've never owned a yogurt maker nor do I know how to make it. I don't want to purchase one just to use it a couple of times, and then add it to my ever growing collection of machines that are currently on display in our basement.
On that note, the shelves are starting to bow at all my cast off "had to haves". That's another story for another time.
Have you ever owned one? Is it worth buying one? Is it more hassle than savings?
Thoughts please.

I am anxious to see if you get reviews here....I have never tried homemade yogurt, but it sounds like it would wonderful. I also eat it daily....and love it with granola. That is the perfect breakfast in my book!!

As much as you eat yogurt, I think it would be a great purchase. Did you google it? Sometimes you can find product reviews on-line.
Thanks for visiting my blog!
I have never heard of that-however my grannie use to make her own yogurt. (I wish I paid attention and learned! She has since passed away.)
A machine might make it easier...
We had one when I was a kid - loved it. You simply have to play around with the brand and kind of milk - it may take longer to get the yogurt as thick as you enjoy.
This is a great article about it

enjoy!! I always love a fun project like this!
I'll be interested to hear what you find out...I've always wondered about yogurt makers.
I didn't know you could make your own. Try it so you can inform us! Everything else taste better homemade so why not this?
I don't own one and think it would be a hassle personally, but I've never seriously considered it either. Hmm, good question!
Jo, sounds great. However, from what I have heard I think you can make it without a 'maker' not sure. I have not attempted.
You may check out The Year of Crockpotting - I have it in my blog links/sidebar. She did a homemade yogurt in the crockpot! And she liked it! I want to try that one.
Also, I want to email you about your offer and ideas for the Tigers. :) Thanks so much!
I bet that would come in very handy! Let us know what you think of it...maybe I should try one too!

I saw one in WS many years ago and thought it looked fun but then decided that the price of yogurt really wasn't that expensive. Plus I assume you need milk and other stuff to make it right? I have a feeling it might be less expensive to buy it from the market. That being said, if I had the space to store it I would prob get one too- I love stuff like this. :)
