What a Week

Saturday, April 16, 2011 |

It's been an eventful week here in my little life. Each day provided a new entry for the Winner of the Week Award.

The entries ...

** my cold that won't go away ~ it's been lingering for the past couple of weeks
** sneezed on, coughed on, sneezed on, coughed on, for the past few weeks by sick students
** vomited on by very sick child at school {almost the winner}
** Bentley went lame with yet another round of tick borne disease ~ trip to Vet before school
** field mouse moved into the wall of master bedroom ~I'm in denial, there are probably more than one.
** husband is away; of course
** house is in total disarray from on going projects
** family room is half primed because I can only work on it in the evenings

In true Hollywood style, the best was saved for last ...

After a  L   O   N    G  week I was so glad to finally have Friday behind me with the promise of a relaxing weekend on the horizon. I had plans to meet friends for dinner and the rest of the weekend was for finishing up my painting project and getting the rest of our home back in order ~ it's all been affected by our home projects.

Well, that's not exactly what LIFE had planned for Friday evening.

I arrived home to a beeping noise. The kind that a dying battery in a smoke alarm makes. After letting the dogs out of their kennels, I went upstairs to access the situation. The smoke alarm was fine. The Carbon Monoxide Detector however wasn't. Yep, it was beeping and flashing. Great, just what I needed for the final entry into my Winner of the Week contest.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a WINNER!

After grabbing the phone, getting Bentley and Bozley, I called 911 and let them know the situation.

They arrived in style and promptly went to work. Due to the potential seriousness of the situation, they donned all their protective gear and meters.

Just before setting off to assess my home, I felt compelled to apologize for the condition of our home. Yes, I AM that neurotic! After a quick low down of our projects which have caused such havoc in our home, I felt better. Seriously, I didn't want them to think we were such slobs.

My neighbor was politely laughing at me during this "prep" time.

Bringing the detectors out from our home to have them tested.

Reviewing the equipment from our home ~ me standing numb.

The whole time they were in my home, I was trying to come up with a plan ... where does one go with 2 dogs, a husband away? We have a plan for just about everything but not this type of situation. I do not like being unprepared or surprised by the unknown.

In the end, all this commotion was caused by a faulty carbon monoxide detector.

Thankfully, all is well and life is back to {chaotic} normal.

I was very grateful and relieved with the news. I'll be adding a new detector to my list of things to buy this weekend.

Oh my gosh! This sounds just like the week I had a couple of weeks ago only yours was 10X worse! You win!!!
When my husband was away and a storm knocked out the electricity the security system started beeping. I hate it when things start beeping...the fire detectors do it randomly all the time, the Co2 detectors I replaced with plug into the wall kind and they don't give me any trouble anymore. I feel for you! Hang in there and I hope you are feeling better and healthy soon.

Oh, Jo...I really thought getting vomited on was going to be the winner of the week, but the threat of carbon monoxide was something else. At least you kept your head on straight and did the right thing. I had to laugh over you apologizing about the state of your house, that is SO me!! Well, I'm glad it didn't turn out to be something worse. It makes all the other problems seem very small.

Hope you have a better day!

XO,
Jane

So glad it was the detector and not an actual problem! And, oh, I can't wait for the joys of teaching-- getting vomited on by a student....

Oh, Jo! Seriously! Love that it was all documented. :)

I'm so glad it ended up not being a problem...but oh, the drama of it all! :)

I hope you have a very uneventful but productive weekend. I'll bet you're regretting your Lenton sacrifice right about now. ;)

oh Jo, your poor thing. utterly dreadful. i think i'd still pick being vomitted on as the winner though! I hope you are feeling better and getting some much needed R&R this weekend. big (virtual) hugs coming your way!! weeks like this make you appreciate the good ones all the more!

Jo, glad you are okay! You handled it all so well, even on your own. You are a strong woman. (And I love that you kept the camera going during the whole process!)

I don't know. I think I agree with the above comment... I think the vomit might be the winner. At least we didn't see pictures of that though. lol.

I'm SO glad it was just a faulty alarm. I am always fearful of carbon monoxide. When we got a gas stove, I was terrified. It's a good week when all are healthy and safe!

And I'm sorry about your cold. Hope you feel better soon!

Mercy me!! You did have a lot of contestants for the Winner this week! I am glad it was only a faulty detector and not something in need of major repair!! Hope your weekend has been going better. blessings ~ tanna

Jo, Thanks for your comment. Wow, after reading your post if we were any closer I'd make you the halibut and bring it over with a nice Pinot. You need a break!

What a crazy week! So glad it was just a faulty detector. When we first moved into this house, I had a similar incident take place. My husband was still half a continent away, closing on our old house. We had the fire trucks and everything - just like you - and had to evacuate our house. All for a dead battery in the Co2 detector!

OH MY GOODNESS, you have had quite a week..... I hope you grabbed yourself a good bottle of wine when all this was over.

I had to laugh at your comment about being "neurotic".... I am EXAXCTLY the same way. This is one of the reasons I cannot leave dishes in the sink or toys on the floor when we go to bed at night.

Hope you have an easier week ahead.....feel better.

xoxo,

Lisa

When it rains, it pours, doesn't it? I'm glad you only had a faulty detector and not an actual problem with your furnace or water heater. I hate when someone has to see when I have a messy house- I go on and on, apologizing profusely!
Well guess what, my friend? I am gonna make your new week start out really well! You are the winner of my give-away for the Paula Deen decorating book! You need to send me your address so I can get it off to you. Congrats and enjoy looking at all those pretty pictures of southern charm. hugs, Sue

Isn't it wonderful to see the flowers blooming? When we started seeing blooms in these parts, it gave me true hope that winter would actually end! Love your pups - so very cute!
