Stowaway

It's been a crazy busy summer here in our home. My husband's work schedule has been insane with lots of travel ... opportunity for me! :)

We started our day off touring the Queen Mary in Long Beach. The history of this beautiful ship is impressive and the craftsmanship stunning even after all these years.

"Parked" right next to the Queen Mary is the Russian submarine; the Scorpion. Being the sub riding naval officer that he is, my husband felt the need to share this fine boat with me. Trying to be a good sport {being on subs scares me like you would not believe!} I went along. I was good for about 3 minutes until I hit my head on a hatch and the closterphobia began.

In his glory! Love the smirk on his face.
I was treated to a very detailed step by step tutorial of what everything was and how it worked. I know, you're jealous! :)

I'm not sure I would have lasted long with such amenities.

The view from the deck .

Love this photo.
The glistening of the water below the bright orange and white of the lifeboats just screams summer.

After a guided tour we headed for one of my favorite restaurants that my husband introduced me to last year, Dukes. The food is great and view is amazing!

We enjoyed a late lunch and I did a little house hunting. There are some great deals to be had in the sunny state of California. Now all I need to do is sell our home here and convince my husband to move. I'm starting with the no snow factor ~ ha!

It was a sunny but hazy day which created a photo challenge for me.

More to come ...

How fun! I have seen the Queen Mary but have never been on it. Saw it when we took a ferry from Long Beach to Catalina. Have you ever been to Catalina? You should GO! It's awesome!

Looks like you found plenty of fun things to do and see, and yes, Dukes is great! Longer message to you this evening; I am still beyond exhausted; time to run away to France for awhile!

I used to frequent Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach all the time, but can you believe never Long Beach?
I think I would have appreciated the Queen Mary a little more than the sub myself, but certainly see the attraction for your husband. Obviously functionality over luxury is the name of the game there.
I don't know how anyone can afford to live in Cali anymore. Comparatively, our home would cost somewhere in the 2 million dollar range in San Diego vs. what we paid for it here.
I love Cali no doubt, but wouldn't move back there for anything.

Hi Jo,

What a fun time you are having away and yes, the Queen Mary would be a much better place to be than the sub.
I went for a look around the Queen Mary about 25 years ago, it is impressive.

Happy week

What great photos! And love the 'stache. Ha! ;) Still growing strong over here to my dismay....

Happy to fuel the west coast move idea. Let me know if you need any help with your sales pitch.

I'm a California native and moved to the South after marrying my hubby. There's a lot I miss but I'd have to say the summers makes the top of my list.

AWESOME pictures. I'd love to tour the Queen Mary. Hope you and your hubby have a great time.

Hugs,
Gigi

You even make Long Beach look good! Vacations are wonderful, aren't they? It's always fun to see a tourist's view of home. :)

Jo,

So glad your back! Your photos are wonderful. Jon loved the sub...he has a good friend that was stationed on one, years ago. I with you, I can't even go on one!

My dearest friend got married on the Queen Mary...thanks for the great photos. It was a family affair, so I never really saw it like that.

Isn't it amazing how getting away puts everything in perspective? Now you are refreshed and ready to enjoy the rest of the summer in CT.

Warmly, Kathleen

These photos are gorgeous (again), I especially love the one from the deck and also the orange boats/glistening water one.
Had to laugh at the smog, I mean "haze" uugh! I went to school in LB, so it's very familiar! :)
