This lovely orchid was a gift from a sweet parent. It was an unexpected surprise that was awaiting my arrival Friday morning. I was so touched by the sweet words she shared with me in her note and her kindness expressed in this gift. It made my day and spilled into my weekend!
I've never had an orchid before ~ I've always been afraid of how delicate they appear and I've heard they are hard to grow. I should also point out that I don't exactly have a green thumb when it comes to house plants. According to the card that came with the plant {or is it a flower?}, it needs a temperature of 70~90 degrees and indirect lighting. It also enjoy humidity. I have it in our master bathroom so I think I have the humidity and sunlight down, but there is no way it will reach 70 degrees during the day let alone 90. The warm days are a thing of the past here in New England. It was only 45 here today and that is the high for the entire week and will drop from there. When we are away during the day, the temperature is set for 60.
My husband suggested an electric heating pad on a timer ~ very (not) funny! I am on a mission to keep this lovely alive and beautiful!

Mine did very well for months. I did not water more than once week, unless it was dry. Of course, it was only luck!

Can't say that I have ever had an orchid plant...I'm good with outdoor plants, not so good with the indoor ones. It is really beautiful - good luck!!

My Inlaws keep them all the time and they never do much with them. I dont think they need nearly as much care at the tags say!

Oh I love orchids...I keep them in my house all the time. Depending on the species they are almost carefree...they really don't like to be messed with. Just a little water now and then...and you are good to go.

Enjoy!!!

Gorgeous! I love orchids, but I'm too scared to have them. My mother has a green thumb, but still can't seem to keep these buggers alive! I have therefore given up any hope of owning them. :) I hope your luck proves better in this department. It certainly is a beauty. :)

Try not to kill it with kindness-which I did. My husband has great luck with them and pretty much ignores them. I know the humidity from the shower is something they love. You'll have fun with it and those gorgeous flowers...last forever!

I love orchids. And what a nice gift for you! I received one after the birth of our daughter, but, not being a green thumb, well, let's say it didn't make it. They are lovely though.

What a treasure Jo. It's so seldom we receive "thank-you's" in our profession...leading us to treasure the few we do receive. I wish I was an expert on orchids!

It's always so wonderful when parent's take the time to show gratitude to their child's teacher. Besides, if little Tommy has been a stinker lately, a kind note explaining why is oh so appreciated by his teacher & helps little Tommy too!
I know you are a great teacher!
I only have 2 really nice "fake" orchids because I tend to kill them... good luck!

Orchids are not difficult. I usually have them for 2 months before the bloom starts to fade. Getting them to rebloom is another story. Haven't been able to do that. Just keep them watered.

What a lovely gift!

My son's teacher's birthday is in a few weeks. We were going to start her day with flowers, cards, and a coffee cake. Any other suggestions from a fellow teacher?
