Refresh and renew

{my beautiful tulips fresh from the market}

I'm not big on making resolutions ~ let's be honest here, they sound good coming out of your mouth and that's about how long they last, at least for me.

This year I'm trying to focus on making changes or tweaking things in my life.

I've read on a few blogs featuring 100 goals in 2010.

This seems a little too ambitious for me and when I tried making the list it sounded pathetic. I was trying to come up with 100 profound items and I just knew after reviewing my short list that there was no way I was going to be able to accomplish this so called list of goals. It would surly only add additional unwanted stress to my life ~ not the goal I'm trying to achieve.

I want to focus on centering my life ~ not to be confused with self centered!;)
My mother use to tell me that LISTENING is an art that takes many years to develop. I want to become a better listener.
This goes beyond the casual conversation. I want to hear what is being said when a friend is sharing something important, when my teenage son is expressing his thoughts and concerns as well as hearing what I am to be doing in and with my life.

As I look around our home, I realize how very comfortable we are.
We want for no "needs" and many of our "wants" have been granted. This is not the case for many families. One area I want to focus on this year is more giving throughout the year and not just during the holidays.
I am still working on compiling my list for 2010. Once it's complete, I'll share a little more.
Hope you are all enjoying a healthy and bright start to the New Year!

You are so right... I already have so many of my "wants" and can easily obtain them if I don't.

My goals this year are also making myself a better person on the inside. I have joined a new Bible study which I am very excited about. I have also committed myself to reading one book a month. I just don't take the time out to read like I should - and I'm a teacher!

Happy Refreshing and Renewing!

Hey there....nice blog! Love you attitude about "resolutions". I don't like them but your idea is great. I don't really have needs and am, in the grand scheme of things, VERY blessed. I'm trying to listen more this year too....to friends, strangers and most importantly God. :) Happy New Year from Houston, TX!

So beautifully said Jo! I hope that 2010 is a wonderful year for you and you can become more centered:)

I almost died when I opened your blog and saw your photo. Yesterday as I was walking to the checkout at our local Wegman's, I noticed the beautiful tulips.... I bought two bunches and put them in a vase on my kitchen table. I bought the exact same color too!! I phtographed them this morning in the beautiful sunlight..... they looked so cheery and really brightened up my kitchen:)

Hope you have a wonderful week!

xo,

Lisa

Great post - I really like your comments about listening. So often we're caught up in our own thoughts, so we don't hear each other. Just letting another person express his or her feelings could make a profound difference. And, I often feel that I suffer from "affluenza" at times. Too much stuff and no real need for it. Very thought provoking - thanks!
