What goes up ...

must come down.

I spent the better part of the day putting away our Christmas decorations.

My heart really wasn't in all the hoopla of the holidays this year. There really isn't a reason that I can put my finger on. I just couldn't keep the spirit going for very long.

I was ready to take it all down the day after {actually before if I'm being honest with ya} Christmas but I talked myself into trying to enjoy it a for a few more days now that  all the hype is over.

Nope, didn't work. It was becoming a source of major stress.

So, bright and early, I began the laborious process of dismantling the displays, pulling out the bins, wrapping the ornaments and tucking away the ever growing amount of holiday decorations. Whew!

After the roads were travel ready, from the blizzard, my hubby and I went tree shipping. We found a beautiful artificial {fake} Christmas tree. For various reasons ~ allergies being the biggest ~ we decided this would be the year to purchase an alternative decoration {my friend's description of fake trees} for next Christmas.

I offered to save this in a zip lock as a special reminder for my husband :)

I know exactly how you feel. This year I just wasnt into Christmas and honestly, was so glad when it was over! I swear if my husband plays one more Christmas song I am calling my lawyer!

I started taking it all down and as soon as I can get the males out of the house I am going to put on some Elton John and get it all packed and back in storage!

It makes me wonder if being the one who makes the magic happen...there is no magic for me!

I tore down all of our Christmas last except for the tree. That will come down Sunday. I got a fake tree a few years ago. I miss a real one but it's easier and cheaper :)

Jo, I took all of my live greenery and 10' Frasier Fir down the day after Christmas - including all of my downstairs decorations. The outside decorations came down this morning. Emma's tree is down...now we are just waiting on the boys to clean their rooms enough to take theirs down. I love Christmas decorations, but the older I get, the more I want them down AS SOON AS THE BIG DAY IS OVER.

I got my tree up the week before Christmas so I feel kinda guilty taking it down until after the first of the year, but gee it sure is a lot of work to get everything up and down. We had a fake tree for so long that we finally went back to real but the fake ones esp with the lights really have gotten to be very high quality. I love seeing all your decorations up!

Everything is being put away today and tomorrow.. would've been done today, but Hubs came home suffering from FOOD POISONING yesterday..and neither of us got much sleep..
he's home today, feeling guilty for being underfoot and NOT at the office seeing patients!
but we are doing our thing,, watching it snow.. finally!
like you, I really just never got into the REAL holiday spirit..
i blamed it on the first snowless Christmas in my 5 years of being here in Denver..
Am ready to pack it all away and start the New Year off with a clean slate..
but not before giving thanks for yet another year on this planet!!
warmest sandy hugs..
Happy New Year!

I think one reason we want it all down is that we put it up so early. I'm not complaining... just an observation. I have started the laborious process. However, I'm sure the tree will probably be up until Epiphany - but not after!

From reading lots of blogs, this Christmas WAS kind of anti-climatic for most of us.

Here's to Christmas 2011!

We'll begin the process this weekend - I try to keep everything up until New Year's Day. But, I'm with you, things are getting to me a bit. Perhaps a little too cluttered. Your house looks beautiful though (your first pic makes me miss our wood-burning fire place. Gas is not the same!).

I started taking down today, i feel like this year i was late to the party for everything, so i've left the tree a bit longer to soak up some late relaxed time by it... hopefully at least!!!
wishing you a wonderful NEW YEAR

Jo, You are lucky that it only took one day to do your job! I began dismantling everything on Monday after Christmas! It just seemed so superfluous and I wanted it all gone. LOL Here it is Sunday, and I'm still plugging along. One box left to fill in the great room and the rest of the rooms ready to be cleaned. Yikes- how does it all turn into such a disaster? So, now that the purging and cleaning bug has bitten me, I am taking the rest of the week to do that. Hope it gets done, because I am so behind in everything. Next year is going to be even simpler than this year. was with only three trees being put up.
Wishing you all good things in 2011! :-) Sue
